Hephzibah children’s home

Our History

In 2011 two friends Richard Mugumba and Ronald Kerango travelled to a small village in Zombo district called Palaei – yugu district to visit a long associate and what they experienced there changed their perspective towards life forever. Zombo district is very hilly and mostly covered in thick vegetation with tree planting on commercial basis widely practiced. The district borders the democratic republic of Congo and it’s no surprise that many young men women and men engage in cross border trade. As beautiful as the scenery of Zombo may be, the two friends realized that they are many social economic disparities in the village of Palei-yugu and indeed the greater Zombo district. Very low literacy rates, alcoholism and early teenage pregnancies were among the things they experienced and witnessed

Richard and Ronald returned to Kampala and teamed up with two more friends liberty Azunga and Berochan Roy and together they brain stormed on different ways of helping alleviate the desperate situation of the people of  Palei village with a special emphasis on the young children of the village many of whom did not have access to the basics of life. Although the team of these four dedicated friends was to initially fight alcoholism in the community, they were faced with logistical problems and the fact that the area was very difficult to access. There are no psychosocial support systems in the area which makes the area difficult to grow

Since many of the school drop outs where in alcohol abuse, the four friends decided to setup support structure which could make the kids stay long in school with the aim of achieving success as a community. After many years Hephzibah children’s home was founded in Palei as a beacon of hope to the children of Palei-yugu
